In 1746, Empress Maria Teresa ordered a chandelier to be made for her Schönbrunn palace. When it arrived she became so thoroughly enchanted with its lyre shape and sparkling rosette bobeches that she ordered other rooms filled with will similar, magnificent pieces.

It was a style of chandelier that came to be associated with her name, as did the yellow ochre paint on the façade of the palace. The frame is a combination of hand blown Czech style glass panels and rosettes wrapped and bent around a steel frame giving the impression of floating glass.

Each fixture takes on its own unique design from the arrangement and size of the crystal trim. To this day, the magnificent Schönbrunn houses the charming chandeliers to which Maria Theresa gave her name. They are alive with light – airy and delicate in their finite details.
